Adapted from Glen Middleham's original mixed media collage, the puzzle was produced in collaboration with Dartmoor National Park Authority to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Dartmoor National Park’s designation as a national park.

Inspired by one of Devon's most recognisable landmarks, the artwork has been painstakingly hand-crafted from archive maps, historic newspapers, photographs, documents and other fascinating materials preserved within Dartmoor's record libraries. Every carefully placed fragment helps tell the story of this remarkable landscape.

About the artwork

Haytor has inspired walkers, climbers, artists and nature lovers for generations. Standing proudly on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, it is one of the National Park's most recognisable landmarks and a place that means something different to everyone who visits.

To celebrate the National Park's 75th anniversary, artist Glen Middleham created this intricate collage over many hundreds of hours. Every section of granite, every blade of grass and each area of vegetation has been individually cut and assembled by hand using carefully selected archive material relating to Dartmoor's landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage. Even the kestrel in the foreground of the piece took around 30 hours to create.

The finished artwork invites you to slow down and look closer, revealing new stories and hidden details every time you study it.
